The Biggest Challenges You Face as a Content Marketer and How to Overcome Them

Coming Up With New Ideas

Probably the most difficult aspect of producing lots of content is coming up with ideas. Writer’s block is a very common problem when creating written content. Sometimes you just hit that wall and the words don’t reach the page. You could be struggling with the actual topic itself too.

Solution:
Use a content discovery tool like Drumup to find inspiration from other pieces of content.

If you really can’t get past writer’s block, the best thing to do is take a break. Listen to some music, make yourself a drink and try not to force creativity. Come back to the article later on and you will probably feel refreshed and full of new ideas.

Keeping Variety Throughout

When you’ve been creating content for quite some time, it starts to get difficult to maintain a variety of topics without repeating yourself. Simply rewording blog posts that essentially deliver the same message will bore your readers. It certainly won’t help you reach a wider audience.

Solution:
In this case, think about how you can write about topics outside the niche. This tends to be more general, non-specific topics. If you own a website all about insurance, you could also write about money saving tips, the process of buying a new home/car. This would add some much-needed variety to your articles about choosing the best insurance provider. The same concept can be applied to almost any niche.

Engaging The Audience

Simply having content isn’t enough. The quality of that content needs to be engaging. Will your visitors actually want to read it and when they do, will they find it informative/entertaining? This is a real challenge because not everyone is a strong writer, not everyone is creative when it comes to video content.

Solution:
Start learning the skills it takes to create great content by attending a webinar, a marketing conference or training course. If you find yourself unable to produce your own engaging content, it might be time to outsource the work to a freelancer/company.

Finally, time, as with anything can be a real issue for content marketers. The key here is planning ahead and doing your research so you can create a solid content calendar in plenty of time. Good time management isn’t easy, but it’s doable. Start with the larger more challenging tasks first and leave the smaller ones until after.
