When Affiliates Fail: 8 Biggest Mistakes

Affiliate marketing can be a great way to earn some extra cash if you have a content driven site that gets a fair bit of traffic. By simply promoting products and adding links to a merchant site you have an agreement with, you can earn commission from somebody either buying the product, clicking the link, or entering information. Although some network marketers might try to tell you that there are too many products, tools, and services out there when it comes to affiliate marketing and most don’t make any money, you shouldn’t listen to them. There is still a need for affiliates! To do it right, we’re going to share with you the 8 biggest mistakes to avoid.

Mistake 1: Annoying People with Your Product/Service

If you annoy people with the product/service you’re trying to get commission on, you’ll find that you go nowhere, fast. Shoving it down people’s throats certainly isn’t going to get them to buy. The more you try to push your product or service on to a person, the more likely they are to push you away.

Mistake 2: Doing it Simply for The Cash

If you’re simply doing it for the cash, your potential buyer could sense this and pull away from buying from you. What you’re thinking will definitely show, whether that’s in your voice, your body language, or text that you write. If you care about the prospect and think they could really use the product/service, you might actually get somewhere.

Mistake 3: Not Using the Products You’re Promoting

Way too many people try to sell products that they haven’t tried themselves. How can you trust them? You should be able to answer at least a few simple questions about the product, so your prospect knows that you believe in it.

Mistake 4: Joining Too Many Programs

People think they can get rich quick if they join as many affiliate programs as possible. The truth is, lots of affiliate programs can become hard to manage if you bite off more than you can chew! By all means join multiple programs, just don’t join more than you can handle.

Mistake 5: Not Promoting Your Site

Promoting your site is essential – if no one knows it’s there, how do you expect to get traffic and commission for your affiliate products? SEO is a must, as it’s the one thing that will really help to improve your sites visibility in the search engines.

Mistake 6: Not Being Committed

If you want great results, you must be committed. Failure to commit to your affiliate programs will result in failure.

Mistake 7: Getting Lazy

Ok, so your campaign was profitable when you started out…that doesn’t mean you should get lazy! You need to put in the time and effort to make this project work for the long run, not just in the short term.

Mistake 8: Giving Up

Of course, your affiliate programs will probably have both good and bad days. It’s the same as everything in life! Giving up when the going get’s tough is one of the biggest mistakes. Why not learn from your past efforts, do some more research, make the changes you need to make, and grow?

Avoid the 8 fatal mistakes above and you could be in with a shot of becoming a successful affiliate marketer!
